Knowing When to Take a Step Back

Happy Thursday and welcome back to another edition of Creator Thought Thursdays! I hope you enjoy this week’s issue.
My Thought for the Week 💭
When I first started my podcast last year in the hell storm that was 2020 I had no idea that it was going to last as long as it has.
Of course in the starting months I was very inconsistent and trying to figure things out (still am), and didn’t release an episode every week, and in fact skipped a month altogether without giving anyone a heads up.
Now that I’m almost a year in I thought it’d be a good idea to go all in and try and push out an episode every single week, or at least 3 episodes a month.
I would say that I was mostly successful in March, but somewhat burned out by the end of it and noticing it was hard for me to enjoy podcasting despite outsourcing 80% of the workload in marketing and editing.
I also noticed that the quality of each published episode wasn’t as good as it could be. I was basically recording the intro/outros at night when I was super tired - thus not giving the best vibe to new listeners probably. And the storytelling element of it all had basically disappeared.
So I decided to take a step back from publishing for a month. To reassess and reflect on how I could make things more sustainable for my podcast workflow, and how I could publish content people could really enjoy.
This isn’t to say that I think my podcast is garbage, in fact I get tons of positive feedback most of the time. I just know that I can do better and I want to bring the storytelling aspect back….or recreate it rather.
We often feel like we have to push ourselves to our limits and get as much done as possible. However I think taking breaks allows us to recharge and get back on track. It allows us to really think about how to execute rather than moving too quickly on autopilot.
I hope you give yourself the self-care and rest you deserve this weekend.
Wishing you a great rest of your Thursday,
Miko
Tricks and Tips Learned💡
Stealing is a good thing!
Trash panda doing what it was born to do
When it comes to creating content, no idea is ever original which is why the concept of stealing should be encouraged more often. I’m not saying to deliberately copy and paste someone else’s work and claim it as your own, what I’m saying is to take something and make it your own.
Most of the things we love and enjoy from food to music have all taken inspiration from something that already existed, and it’s because of how unique those things are that we enjoy them so much.
So if you think something can be better improved or more unique, go steal!
Creator Quote of the Week 🗣️
It doesn’t matter if it’s been done before, because you’re the one who’s doing it and you’ll make it unique
I came across this video called 5 MORE Editing Mistakes YouTubers Do That I Hate… and really loved this quote because adding onto what I said previously, literally everything is based off of something that already existed. Just because “it’s been done already” is no excuse to not start something, just do it and make it your own.
